Hi I’m Ruble and I’m a qualified PAT (pets as therapy) dog and I work with people of all ages in schools, universities and adult mental health centres and a variety of other venues all across the UK.
This week I worked with Y12 students who wanted to take some time out from study and spend a quiet half an hour with a qualified therapy dog. I will be doing this every Tuesday until the end of term.
A member of the school teaching staff, the proud owner of Ruble, very kindly offered to bring him in for some mindfulness sessions with our Y12 students. Pets As Therapy is a national charity founded in 1983 by Lesley Scott-Ordish. They enhance health and wellbeing in the community through the visits of trusted volunteers with their behaviourally assessed animals.
Max and Matteo were two of the lucky sixth formers who had a session in the sunshine with Ruble this week.
“We were both feeling a bit stressed about exams, seeing Ruble definitely helped distract us from that and aided in calming our nerves. Ruble is so cute and he allowed us to escape the usual hustle and bustle of school life. If given the opportunity we would certainly do this again and we recommend everyone give a session with Ruble a go.”
