Elizabeth Kitcatt
As the end of term approaches, we’re preparing to say goodbye to our Headteacher, Elizabeth Kitcatt. I didn’t want this moment to pass without paying tribute to the immense contribution Elizabeth has made to our school over many years.
Elizabeth joined Camden School for Girls in 1994 as one of our Deputy Headteachers, having previously been Head of English at Parliament Hill School. As part of the senior leadership team under two headteachers - Geoffrey Fallows and then Anne Canning - Elizabeth quickly established herself as a widely respected Deputy Head, committed to ensuring that all our students achieve their fullest potential, and skilfully navigating the challenges of curriculum changes, school inspections and budget reductions while developing the quality of teaching and learning in the school, steering forward the school’s strategic planning and embedding self-evaluation in the school’s systems.
Given that track record, Elizabeth was the obvious choice for the Headteacher role eleven years ago. Since then she has brought her customary quiet determination, her dedication and, above all, her high aspirations for our students to every aspect of leading the school. Elizabeth has been the embodiment of the school’s ethos and I am certain Miss Buss, the school’s founder, would be as proud as we are of the way in which she has ensured that our students continue to thrive.
The past two school years must rank among the most challenging in the school’s history. We have been so fortunate to have Elizabeth at the helm, calmly ensuring that the school encouraged, informed and supported students and their families.
Elizabeth will be greatly missed by the whole school community: by governors, staff, parents and students. She leaves with our gratitude and our warmest wishes for a long, happy and healthy retirement.
